Our newest decorating idea features the Pacific Heights Lantern Candle Holders from the Spring 2008 catalog. These decorative, stately and tall metal lanterns could have stepped right off the pages of Oliver Twist.

Seasonal Décor
Decorate once to dazzle twice! Assemble one of our fantastic fall displays and voila! With a few simple switches, you have a fresh look for winter. NOW is a perfect time of year to start thinking of the upcoming holidays. Both autumn and Christmas offer great opportunities to show beautifully created designs that can be displayed from now until the end of the Christmas season. Here are a few centerpiece and display ideas for you to “Fall Into Christmas!”
You can create wonderful centerpieces yourself with a little imagination. 1. Start with a bowl, candleabra, cake stand, or something you already have. 2. Take a greenery bush and invert it (pull all stems down around the stalk). Add it to your piece and this is the basic design on which you'll build your seasonal décor. 3. Use greenery year-round -- use holiday or theme items in addition to it. 4. Use swags, garlands, scarecrows, stars, pumpkins, dolls, colored mugs, candles - go for it! 5. When the season or holiday is over, take it down to the basic design and begin again for the new season. You can do it!

Ring around the Seasons
Fall.
Your classy cake plates can hold a centerpiece that includes a seasonal dried flower wreath, a glass lamp shade and a candle.
THE BASICS: A glass cake plate (you probably already have one in your cupboard) starts this off. Place a 12-inch wreath form on top of the cake plate. (We used a delicate dried honeysuckle vine, but you could try grapevine or even preserved ivy.) Place sprigs of dried or preserved hydrangea blossoms in five or six places around the wreath, leaving space for other materials. You can glue these in, because they'll remain for both seasons. Find a clear glass lamp shade--the kind often used with ceiling fans--and place the large opening facing up in the center of the cake plate, inside the wreath.
Winter.
FALL: Dried flowers such as gold yarrow, brown wood roses, burgundy celosia and bronzed bits of strawflowers and grasses gently tuck into the wreath. You can add texture with small, rust-colored copper beech leaves. Then, place a 2x4-inch rust-colored (or other fall hue) candle inside the glass shade.
WINTER: Remove fall flowers, leaving the hydrangea intact. Insert small pieces of real or dried evergreens, white winterberries, green hops, red pepperberries, and frosted beads in white or red. Replace the candle with a red one.
Layers of Light
Fall.
Candles add a special touch when they adorn tables and mantels. Our layered-look project takes the concept one step further.
THE BASICS:You can find clear glass cylinder vases at a crafts store. We nested an 11x4 3/4-inch cylinder with an open bottom inside the largest cylinder vase (12 inches tall, 81/4 inches wide). We also purchased two clear cylinder vases 6 inches tall, 33/8 inches wide, plus six 2-inch-tall clear glass votives.
Winter.
FALL: Place golden corn kernels about 2 inches deep into the space between the taller cylinders, and top them with burgundy cockscomb celosia, orange bittersweet, plus pale-green dried hops and brown oak leaves, both preserved with glycerine. Insert a 3x9-inch rust-colored pillar candle into the inside cylinder. Fill the 6-inch cylinders with similar layers. Insert a 2x6-inch candle into the corn. Change candles if the flame gets close to the dried materials. The smallest glass holders are easy: Just add matching votive candles.
WINTER: Frosted white luster gems (found at crafts stores) replace the corn in the space between the two tall cylinders. Instead of the fall flowers, use imitation red grapes, variegated privet (we bought it fresh, as it dries well) and white paper roses. Switch to red candles.

QIK TIP Pick a Color Picking colors for a new home comes down to individual taste, but decorating experts agree that you should choose colors according to a room's function and the environment you'd like to create.
·Red — empowering, emotional impact. Good for a play area or workroom.
·Orange — cheerful and exciting. Often used in dining rooms, some say orange actually increases the appetite.
·Yellow — warmth and enlightenment. Excellent for the kitchen or small office spaces.
·Green — calm and restful. Works well in bedrooms.
·Blue — tranquil and serene. Also good for bedrooms, as well as bathrooms.
And remember: if you get tired of a color, you can always repaint!
